The Wauconda Police Department and Wauconda Fire Protection District responded to the scene around 10:24 a.m. on Wednesday, after receiving reports of a vehicle crash and water rescue at the intersection of Main Street and Garland Road. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a vehicle upside down in a retention pond on the northeast corner of the intersection.Firefighters worked quickly to extricate Klausing from the partially submerged 2010 Ford Edge. Bystanders had attempted to rescue Klausing and suffered minor injuries in the process, but they declined transport to the hospital.
